As a physician, I have been increasingly concerned by the ever-growing number of patients that come into the office with heartburn and leave with a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Many people end up taking these medications for years, and most are taking them unnecessarily.
I wrote this book to help people learn how to reduce the risk of dangerous side effects if they must take long-term acid-suppression therapy. I want to help people be able to wean off PPIs safely and effectively when they are no longer indicated. Most importantly, I want to help people avoid going on these medications in the first place whenever possible.
While this book focuses predominantly on heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), almost everything I recommend for putting your GI "house" in order, will help improve other minor GI problems, as well.
