Synopsis

Fuschia George, aged 33, is offered a unique opportunity through her workplace, Walstone College, to coordinate a life stories project. Her Bajan father, Calvin, is super proud of her and encourages her to narrate his story. Initially hesitant, Fuschia eventually agrees, and while recording Calvin’s harrowing story of childhood abuse and expat immigrant life, she discovers a lot about herself.

One significant incident for Fuschia is the early disappearance of her beloved mother, Shirley. Losing what seems to be her perfect parent affects Fuschia in many ways, from issues with trusting people to her overprotectiveness towards her younger siblings.

Fuschia faces tough decisions that sometimes lead to hardships, particularly in her choices of relationships. She seeks acceptance and love from people who are torn between forging their own identities and conforming to their expected familial traditions.

The story is set in and around the fictional area of Union Street in East London. Here, Fuschia’s challenges are lightened by her flawed yet lovable family members and local characters whose humorous shenanigans and kind-heartedness enable Fuschia to accept herself and embrace life with open arms.
