About the Author

Sam Perez is a television news reporter who loves telling stories. This passion led her to the University of Georgia, where she graduated with degrees in journalism and Spanish. When Sam isn't cheering on the Dawgs or filming news stories, you can find her trying out a new restaurant. This passion for food comes from her parents, who opened DV8 Kitchen in Lexington, Kentucky.
The restaurant and bakery hires people in recovery from substance use disorder. Sam has found that this community of people have stories of strength, grit, and hope. In an effort to share their experiences and start the conversation about the opioid epidemic, Sam wrote Deviate From Denial: Erasing the Stigma of Addiction and Recovery Through Inspirational Stories.
