Synopsis
BACKFIRE:
Someone is trying to kill Martin Powers, and he has no idea why. He has no enemies. He certainly isn’t rich. In fact, he’s just a route salesman for a cosmetic company—a man of simple means. But someone has tampered with his steering and almost causes him to swerve off the road and into the canyon. Martin assumes it was just an accident until his mechanic tells him otherwise. Now he has a pock-marked man following him, and he finally realizes his life is in danger. His wife Angela, worried for his safety, calls in Bannerman, a local cop. But there is nothing he can do… until the pock-marked man strikes again!

About the Author
Charles Leo Burgess was born April 2, 1907 in Detroit, Michigan. Though he only acquired an 8th grade education, he went on to write over 45 true crime stories for such magazines as Official Detective Stories, Revealing Detective and Confidential Detective from1945 to the mid-1960s. Burgess also published two novels—Backfire and The Other Woman—plus one short story for Manhunt. He died on April 1967 in Lakeland, Florida.
