For the uninitiated, the world of container shipment could be described as ‘a jungle out there’.
The difference between a seaport and dry port; between a berth, quay, pier or jetty; a CFS from a CY; between dwell time and lay time; or between demurrage and detention – could confuse many.
There is a need to understand the precise meaning of terms such as LCL, FCL, CFS, CY, FIOS, CY/CY, CFS/CFS, the liner terms and many more. Throw in the Incoterms 2020 rules and the rules of ‘delivery’ under container shipment, and you have quite a heady mix to deal with.
This book is an attempt to present the world of container shipment as simply as possible.
