"ब्रिटिश शासन से भारत की आजादी के अवसर पर, श्री अरबिंदो, विष्णु के 9वें अवतार, ने अन्य बातों के साथ राष्ट्र को एक रेडियो संदेश में कहा: '…भारत आज़ाद है, लेकिन उसने एकता हासिल नहीं की है, केवल दरारयुक्त और टूटी हुई आज़ादी हासिल की है... ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि हिंदू और मुस्लिम में संपूर्ण सांप्रदायिक विभाजन देश के स्थायी राजनीतिक विभाजन के रूप में कठोर हो गया है। आशा की जानी चाहिए कि कांग्रेस और राष्ट्र तय किए गए तथ्य को हमेशा के लिए तय किए गए तथ्य के रूप में या एक अस्थायी समीचीन से अधिक कुछ के रूप में स्वीकार नहीं करेंगे...' '...क्योंकि यदि यह कायम रहा, तो भारत गंभीर रूप से कमजोर हो सकता है, यहाँ तक कि अपंग भी हो सकता है; नागरिक संघर्ष हमेशा संभव हो सकता है, यहाँ तक कि एक नया आक्रमण और विदेशी विजय भी संभव है। देश का विभाजन अवश्य होना चाहिए... क्योंकि इसके बिना [एकता] भारत की नियति गंभीर रूप से क्षीण और निराश हो सकती है। ऐसा नहीं होना चाहिए.'
