Synopsis

What if Eve could finally tell you what really happened in that garden? Or Noah's wife described life crammed in a floating zoo with a rooster who wouldn't shut up?

The Rest of Their Story gives voice to the women -- and a few men -- history left in the margins of Scripture. In sharp, funny, first-person confessions, familiar Bible stories get a fresh, human retelling: Job's wife defends her most infamous outburst, Leah reclaims her name after a lifetime of being second-best, Rahab turns a scandalous past into an unlikely legacy, and Peter's wife watches her husband go from fisherman to martyr with equal parts pride and heartbreak.

Funny, tender, and surprisingly moving, each chapter peels back centuries of stained-glass solemnity to reveal characters who doubted, grieved, laughed, and loved -- just like we do. Underneath the humor is a deeper thread: grace that reaches the deceived, the grieving, the outcast, and the ordinary.

Whether you know these stories by heart or are meeting them for the first time, The Rest of Their Story will make you laugh, catch your breath, and see Scripture in a whole new light.

Pull up a seat. These voices have waited a long time to be heard.

About the Author

Nancy S. Reed was born and raised on a ranch in Wyoming, where she met her husband fifty-two years ago. After eight years in a small Colorado mountain town, she and her husband settled in eastern Oregon, where they have lived for the past thirty years. She is the mother of three sons and grandmother of five.Having read the Bible cover to cover for three decades, Nancy found herself drawn to the voices of Scripture's lesser-heard characters -- the wives, the doubters, the overlooked -- and began imagining what they might say if given the chance to tell their side of the story. The Rest of Their Story is the result: a collection born from years of devoted study and a lifelong love of storytelling. When she isn't writing, Nancy can be found quilting, making jewelry, and endlessly rearranging her furniture.
