The book before us is a raw, autobiographical testament by Baruch, a recovering addict. It describes his life’s journey, starting from a childhood steeped in emotional deprivation, guilt, and shame, through a downward spiral into a world of drugs, alcohol, gambling, and violence, and leading up to repeated attempts at rehabilitation and recovery. What exactly is addiction? Addiction is a physical, mental, and spiritual disease. It grows and progresses over time. The more I deny this disease and fail to acknowledge my powerlessness against it, the more I continue to use, until utter destruction. My use of drugs, alcohol, and gambling began at the age of 14. Today, I belong to a support group called "Narcotics Anonymous." This is a universal program based on one addict helping another, and thanks to this wonderful program, I am clean today. Baruch Peretz, born in 1955, grew up in Herzliya. He used drugs for 35 years. Today, Baruch has been completely clean for 20 years. And for that, he is deeply grateful to God
