Synopsis

Remembering... is the illustrated history of an Allegheny Mountain farm and its lasting impact on the family who owned it for the last one hundred years. It began as a colonial frontier fort, constructed in the mid-1750s, overseen in part by Lieutenant George Washington. The family came in the 19th century, determined to put its own stamp on history, showcasing its success through breeding and showing thoroughbred horses. Under the surface, however, it wasn't all mint juleps and horse shows. Here is the truth about The Madam, the Dinwiddie plane crash, the Nemrald Hunt, how the son became his father's Godfather, the Pheasant Massacre, the Blueberry Caper, the story of the Grease-Stained Angel, and the Bookend Pistols Rebellion. All were witnessed by a child-eavesdropping from invisible nooks-who had a durable memory and a penchant for collecting photographs. It is also the contrasting story of the men and women who worked on the farm and in the community, wise people with the courage to push back against the demands of rigid family assumptions.
