Richard O'Brien was a product of Culver Military Academy, SIS American University and Georgetown University. He instructed the Secondary Social Studies classes of World History, World Geography, U.S History, U.S Government and Women's Studies. In 2000 he Founded the Center for the Prevention of Genocide, an early warning, human rights NGO designed to predict, intercept and intervene in the most deadly of genocide activities. The CPG was a direct result of O'Brien's Master's Thesis 'Genocidal Indifference.' During its four years open, the largely twenty-something year old staff, interns and volunteers had a surprisingly strong record of success helping avert, end or playing a role in the prevention or intervention in Sulawesi, Indonesia, Nuba, Sudan, Darfur, Sudan, Eastern D. R Congo, Uganda, Chechnya, Colombia, and other hot spots around the world. He testifies in U.S Congressional Committee hearings on LRA killings of Acholi tribe members in Uganda, and appeared or spoke on national TV and NPR radio as well as having written articles in the Washington Post and the new York Times. After the CPG, he taught International Human Rights, Conflict in the Modern World and Ideologies of the World at the University of South Florida. He led the local Democratic party in Manatee County and helped defeat a Racial Profiling Bill in the Florida House and Senate in 2011. He successfully lobbied the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee Chair (House) to change her vote and acknowledge the Armenian Genocide for the first time in U.S History. He took a Visiting Scholar position at George Mason University's Carter School (then S-CAR) and completed the first draft of Break Glass in 2014. He subsequently wrote and published Women President's and Prime Ministers 2017 & 2018 Double Bridge. In 2023, he completed Break Glass, his master work about the Center for the Prevention of Genocide and the past 110 years of genocide and its heroes. He is the proud father of twins Annalise and John AC O'Brien.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Follow the story of 20th - 21st Century Genocide as told by a man who researched, wrote a thesis and created a human rights early warning system that helped stop genocide, massacres and starvation in hot spots around the world. Respected reviewers call this book: 'Stunning, extremely well-written, . It carries the reader along inexorably. O'Brien is a fine storyteller. The book has a moral force that is compelling. His genocide prevention methods are a practical way to do early warning better than any book written so far. It is sure to be a best seller.' Dr Gregory Stanton, Genocide Watch. 'Wow. To the best of my knowledge, O'Brien's book is the most advanced that I have seen, first, in its simplicity, ease, and readability. Second, for the outstandingly clear and precise methodology for getting information about genocidal acts out to the world press, and for its effective methods for reaching U.S. government and U.N. officials. It's real stuff. It is way ahead of the whole bunch of us who have been writing and talking about intervention. It is written in a down to earth style describing recognizable human beings including their (and his) nuanced speech. It is a dramatic adventure story of a race to intervene to stop an actual ongoing genocidal massacre. He displays an unusual talent in respect to the topic of genocide prevention. Indeed, bravo!' - Israel W. Charny Executive Director, Institute on the Holocaust and Genocide.Beginning with a harrowing story of a genocide being interrupted in Sulawesi, Indonesia in 2001 and looking back in history of the reaction of bystanders to genocide from Armenia, through the Holocaust and the Holodomor through to the actions of the Center for the Prevention of Genocide (CPG) and its crew of twenty something year olds quick and successful response to unfolding genocide around the world. The story is a moral imperative to aid in the realization that almost anyone can make a life-saving difference, if they have the right strategy. Seller Inventory # 9798988913900
