Rieden Reece is anxious and angry. With all the grown-ups out of commission, the worried teen is working with his best pal to control the mobs of upset children. And after an electric girl shows up out of nowhere, he, his buddies, and three of the worst bullies ever follow her cryptic clues into a bizarre alien tavern full of danger.

Shocked to learn they're being targeted by a killer virus, Rieden tries to leverage his charisma and unite the oddball group of kids. But when a mini-universe opens and challenges them to a play-or-die game simulation, his new leadership role means he's responsible for everyone's lives.

About the Authors

Matt Guzman is somewhat spoiled. The residents of beautiful San Diego, CA allow him to live there, and they barely complain about it. After managing restaurants for twenty years, he made a drastic decision. Quit. And use everything he learned the hard way about leadership and communication to help children. He's obsessed with emotional health and storytelling. Combining these two passions, Matt crafts sci-fi stories for his twelve-year-old self-still hiding inside his adult brain. He once won an honorable mention from the Writers of the Future Contest. That went straight to his head and now there's no stopping him.

I'm Stephanie, a proud biracial Mexican-American from San Diego with over ten years of experience in the publishing industry. I've read the slush pile for literary agents, edited books for small publishing presses, and collaborated with numerous self-published and agented writers to build their craft and polish their manuscripts. In addition to being a freelance book editor, I write my own YA novels in my spare time--some of which have been published. Basically, it's all books all the time in my world, and I couldn't be happier. Besides books, I love traveling, hiking, swimming, and adventuring in the outdoors. I majored in film production at San Diego State University, and continue to enjoy watching quirky TV shows and cinematic films in my free time. I also play guitar and sing in a community choir. Sometimes I share my music on Instagram, so keep an eye out!
