“The Eternal Ragpicker by Nicos Hadjicostis provides an accessible and useful framing lens through which to reflect on the practices, problems, and paradoxes of our common existential condition. Who has not reflected on the matters he explores, is living reflexively. Having read this book, one will no longer be afforded the luxury of an unexamined life.” – James Hollis, Ph.D., Jungian analyst and author of many books
“I admire how Hadjicostis expresses his reflections with assurance and authority in an engaging and well-shaped narrative, transforming life into art." – Bill Kelly, Intercultural Communication Lecturer at UCLA and Author
“This is a wonderful book. Between the inspirational pages of The Eternal Ragpicker, you will find insightful essays that will quietly summon you to reflect on your life's choices and meditate on your future ones.” – David Rogers, Internationally Acclaimed Yoga Instructor
The Eternal Ragpicker is a collection of philosophical essays that explore human nature, our modern world, our connection with others, and more.
Written between 2016 and 2024, these essays examine aspects of the human condition with the aim of encouraging the reader to pause their daily activities in order to self-reflect. This is not academic philosophy, but practical philosophy. Each subject is related to our everyday life in the Stoic tradition, which considered philosophy as something that could help us live better rather than as the domain of specialists. The majority of essays are about "expanding our world" and growing by changing our perspective. For example, the author explains how we each live in our self-contained little "universes" of our job and interests, yet that it is only by making the conscious leap of exploring the others' universes that we can truly understand our own. He also encourages us to boldly leap into the Unknown and to embrace suffering as a path to growth.

Nicos Hadjicostis studied physics at King’s College London and then managed the largest media group in Cyprus for over a decade. After leaving the media, he traveled around the world for six-and-a-half years, exploring the world as if it were one huge country, a single destination. His first book, the award-winning Destination Earth: A New Philosophy of Travel by a World-Traveler, was inspired by this journey. His second book, Conversing with Cavafy: Reflections on the Journey of Our Life, explores themes that are central to our everyday life and connects them with the poems of C.P. Cavafy, other writers and philosophers. The Eternal Ragpicker is his third book.
Nicos is now a writer of mainly philosophical essays. He has published for the Huffington Post, Thrive Global, Watkins Mind Body Spirit, Grateful, and on his website NicosHadjicostis.com. He also gives talks on various subjects.
