The covid pandemic changed a lot of things. Lives were turned upside down and many people found themselves in new and challenging circumstances. For Australians Greg and Sally that meant crossing the world to live in France with Sally's eccentric Uncle Kurt who had just bought a five storey derelict hotel in a small hilltop village in the rural South West. They find themselves in an unfamiliar world, learning how to live in a newcountry, plumbing the mysteries of French culture and language and discovering that there are layers of reality they had never encountered.
The village of Saint Livraque, nestled high up above the river behind its defensive walls, is named, supposedly after a medieval saint. However Greg and Sally begin to discover that perhaps this saint is still around and keeping an eye on the welfare of those who are willing to believe he is still at work. The reality of a saintly presence is totally outside the previous existence of these young Australians, but slowly they come to accept that there has to be something there. They become witness to what might be referred to as miracles.
They even become rather fond of their own saint.
