Double Dare (Double Dare Trilogy) - Softcover

Synopsis

The three volumes of the Double Dare trilogy present more than a succession of dares designed to test Raphael and Luke's devotion to one another. They also entertainingly explore the inevitable establishment of an equally dedicated, and wonderfully diverse, chosen family of gay men, each of whom brings something unique to the story. Fair warning, there are a few explicit scenes of men being intimate with their partners, but at its core, Double Dare explores true love and the sacrifices and commitment it demands from each character. For the most part, Double Dare could be described as a romp. Double Dare II, A Shaman Appears, becomes far more serious (but still plenty sexy) as the family welcomes two more members while they all cope with the arrival of a global pandemic and the angst of the Black Lives Matter movement. And in Double Dare III, the members of the now firmly established chosen family face challenges both heart-breaking and heartwarming.

About the Author

Michael Curless lives, works, writes, hikes and dines in San Francisco, the crazy, wonderful, diverse city he loves. Although he prefers Cabernet, Mourvèdre and buttery Chardonnays, like Raphael and Alex, when tempted, his favorite bubbly is Schramsberg. He prefers dining in to take-out, except, perhaps, when all of the 'family' is present.

From the Back Cover

Can you can ever be sure how much someone really loves you? There's no rule book, no test. Which is why Raphael and Luke devised a test of their own. A dare. Then, a double dare. And so on. To see if there ever came a time when one of them would have to admit, "I'm sorry. I love you, I really love you, but, not enough, I guess, to accept your dare." Some dares are tame. Some silly. And some profound. Some ensnare other members of their growing, chosen family. A diverse family of white, Asian American, Black, and Latino gay San Franciscans.

Along the way, love deepens within each of the several couples who form this family. New friendships are nurtured and devotion blooms among all of them. Whenever a member of this family needs it, one or more of the others come to the rescue.

This is a tale of twenty-first century San Francisco gay men. It's an honest tale. One that does not look away whenever each of these couples submit to one another. Emotionally. As well as physically. If passionate sex between men makes you uncomfortable, this is not the book for you.

Once you've enjoyed Double Dare, you are invited to indulge yourself with Double Dare II, A Shaman Appears, then Double Dare III, Hiroshi's Gift. Actually, you must, as the tales told here just get better and better.
