Synopsis

Carrie Lehtonen’s life changed at 31 after surviving a heart attack—but the most profound transformation didn’t happen alone.

It happened alongside her dog, Ella.

In Pawsitive Perspectives, Ella—a spirited German Shorthaired Pointer mix rescued from a shelter—shares the story of their fifteen years together. Through career changes, health challenges, dating mishaps, and a move to the mountains, their lives unfold side by side, each shaping the other in unexpected ways.

As Carrie rebuilds her life with greater intention and purpose, Ella becomes more than a companion. She is a teacher, a steady presence, and a model for living with resilience, joy, and grace. Even as Ella faces a diagnosis of degenerative myelopathy, her spirit offers powerful lessons about love and what it means to truly show up for those we care about.

At its heart, Pawsitive Perspectives is a story about the deep, life-changing bond between humans and their animals—a reminder that these relationships are not just companionship, but partnership, healing, and often a path back to ourselves.

Inside, you’ll discover:

  • Forty life lessons revealed through Ella’s quirks, antics, and unwavering spirit

  • An intimate story of starting over and creating a life rooted in purpose

  • A heartfelt reminder that some of life’s best teachers have four legs and a mind of their own

The Companion Journal extends this journey with reflective prompts and guided questions designed to help readers apply each lesson to their own lives, turning insight into meaningful, everyday practice.
