Since 1645, the Concordium has stood between humanity and the things waiting beyond the Veil.
Its agents are called the Accorded—SpellSlingers, SpellCasters, clergy, and Marshals sent wherever the boundary fails. They investigate the impossible, contain what can be contained, and kill what cannot.
Most people never know how close the monsters come.
That is the point.
But in 1890, the Veil is rotting around Copper Creek, Nevada.
Animals are born wrong. The dead refuse to stay buried. Hungry things move in the dark wearing shapes nature never intended. Every night, the breaches grow worse, and the local Accorded are running out of ammunition, magic, and people still willing to die.
Clint Black comes to Copper Creek hoping to disappear.
He survived Carrion Ridge when better men did not, and the legend that followed him has become another kind of curse. He wants no medals. No glory. No more dead faces waiting behind his eyes.
Copper Creek does not care what he wants.
Something ancient is pushing through the Veil, and the town is already being hollowed out from within. Reinforcements may not come. The Concordium may already be too late.
All that remains is a handful of damaged people, a failing line of copper, and the knowledge that if they fall, whatever is coming through will not stop with them.
It will keep feeding until there is nothing left.
