***SITE DESIGN & ENGINEERING*** Second Edition
A Guide for Site Development, Construction Plans Preparation, and Permitting
Developing land successfully requires much more than preparing a site plan. Engineers, developers, property owners, architects, contractors, and other professionals must evaluate existing site conditions, understand applicable regulations, coordinate survey and geotechnical information, prepare constructible plans, and navigate the requirements of multiple permitting agencies.
SITE DESIGN & ENGINEERING provides a practical, step-by-step guide to the major aspects of residential and commercial site development. Drawing on more than four decades of engineering and consulting experience, the author addresses many of the questions and challenges that arise from the initial evaluation of a property through design, permitting, construction, and completion.
The book covers:
- Site evaluation and development considerations
- Survey and geotechnical information
- Site design principles and design processes
- Construction activities within public rights-of-way
- Permitting and coordination with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Single-family residential and accessory dwelling unit development
- Preparation of site engineering construction plans
- Residential subdivision design
- Commercial site development
- Hotel and restaurant site improvements
- Stormwater management and drainage considerations
- Construction-plan preparation and approval
- General permitting procedures and agency requirements
Several detailed examples demonstrate how site development projects progress from vacant land and existing conditions to survey information, engineering design, construction plans, and permitting. The examples include residential subdivisions and commercial development, allowing readers to see how engineering principles are applied to actual development scenarios.
The book is intended as a practical reference for civil engineers, engineering designers, developers, architects, contractors, property owners, and students studying civil engineering, construction, and related disciplines.
Because regulations and design standards vary among jurisdictions, the book does not attempt to replace local codes or agency requirements. Instead, it provides a framework for understanding the development process, identifying important requirements, communicating effectively with regulatory agencies and project participants, and preparing sound, approvable engineering plans.
The detailed chapter structure in your supplied material supports these claims, including the survey/geotechnical chapters, design chapter, right-of-way permitting, residential development, two subdivision examples, hotel/commercial development, and permitting-agency discussion.
