Over years of study, I have read and cherished the many stories recorded in various books about Joseph Smith the latter-day Prophet. One story was when he did his civic duty as mayor by fining a poor black man for selling liquor on the Sabbath day. Then he turned around to do his moral duty by giving the man one of his own horses to sell, enabling him to pay his fine, but only after obtaining a promise from the fellow to do better. Another of my favorites is when he was standing around with some men who were talking about how a brother's house had burned down. They were all relating their sympathy when Brother Joseph said, "I feel sorry for this brother to the amount of five dollars. How much do you all feel sorry?" Another lesson taught.
One problem I have always had is that the stories were not organized in such a way as to enable me to readily find them again later. Often, I would not know even the book in which to look. I am hopeful and confident you will find some stories you have not read before. If you would like one work complete with the stories of Joseph Smith, I believe you will enjoy these volumes as you come to know Joseph better.
