Synopsis
In a time of upheaval, when a word in the wrong ear can mean a death sentence, who can bear to speak the truth?
Is religion compatible with revolution? Sister Marie Katrin is about to find out. Mystery surrounds the young Canadian nun who has arrived without explanation at the convent in Intramuros, the Walled City of Manila. In 1972, President Marcos consolidates power over the government and puts the military into the streets. But it isn’t enough. Voices must be silenced, especially the archbishop of Manila, who speaks out to defend the poor.
American intelligence assigns a suave Filipino academic to befriend Marie Katrin and induct her into the shadowy world of traded information. Their affinity threads through her fraught journey into the violent realm where family dynasties vie for power, and the regime treats the expat nun as a spy. But with the Church under threat, she is determined to act. The moth trader hovers near as she courts dangerous allies, tests forbidden feelings, and at every step strains the bounds of her vows. Has she gone too far when she becomes entangled with the beautiful female leader of a rebel militia?

About the Author
Conflicted characters ensnared in political intrigue and struggle inspire the writings of Joseph Kleinman. As a documentary filmmaker, he was twice honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. A produced screenplay for ABC Television, The Magic Pearl, received an Emmy(R) award for animation. The author is particularly proud to reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
