Synopsis

Her son walked away from a goal she dreamed for him, and she had no idea who she was without it.

For over ten years, Tara Fisher's identity revolved around the pool deck. Swim taxi, meet volunteer, stat tracker. She did everything except actually swim.

Growing up, she lived in her brother's shadow, but with her son's talent in the water, she was somebody, and she had the next four years mapped out in meters and yards—until the day her son walked away from a college scholarship and took her plans with him, leaving her with nothing but memories and a box of ribbons.

While Tara's husband and son carried on as if nothing had changed, she struggled to redefine herself, fearing she'd missed her chance long ago. An unexpected encounter, a race she couldn't finish, and an afternoon of channel surfing point her toward something she never saw coming. Long-distance triathlons.

With a coach of her own, a crazy dream, and a new circle of friends, Tara builds a life she never dreamed of—long rides through the Delta backroads, swimming in a lake meant for nuclear cooling towers, and challenging local races with increasing distances.

Mile by mile, Tara Fisher is becoming someone new—someone who never thought anything could feel as good as watching her son win. She was wrong.
