Synopsis

The objective of the Great Debate Series is to provide a pathway for meaningful and sustainable change. Despite living in a time of extreme controversy, friction, and polarization, I remain optimistic. While the aspirations for this series may be lofty, they are by no means out of reach. Unity and resolution are possible with the proper focus and mindset. Human beings have tremendous power to overcome adversity, but it requires faith in the greater good. In the words of the Buddha, “There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills.”

Controversy stems from ignorance, a situation that manipulative individuals willingly exploit. The greatest hope I have as the author of this series is that readers re-evaluate their position based on the series of facts and possible pathways and that they use this added information to make meaningful and sustainable changes. What the world needs are leaders with solutions, not activists desperately looking for a cause.

Abortion is the first topic in the Great Debate series. It was chosen because it is, by far, one of the most controversial and 100% fixable. By showing how to resolve this millennia-old issue without a loss of innocent life or infringement on personal rights, the conversation changes from adversarial to collaborative, from destructive to constructive. The road to nowhere becomes the path to enlightenment. Empathy, respect, and dignity replace dehumanization and despair. You do not have to be controversial to address controversy.
