Synopsis

Named for her stillborn twin brothers. Raised in a cult by well-intentioned but clueless parents. Doug David is awakened to the rotten reality of her life on an isolated Kansas farm by the birth and disappearance of her own twins. DD, as her mother nicknamed her, is determined to escape the malevolent drifter who has controlled every aspect of her family’s existence since she was a child. With the help of the kindly widowed farmer who found her—disoriented and distrustful, the day after she fled the farm that had been her world—and the efforts of a doggedly compassionate social worker, DD strives to recover her daughters and make a new life with a found and chosen family full of love.
