Guided by a wise alchemist and his sharp-witted apprentice, Flowia, Bertwoin hurries to find the actual killer. He and Flowia uncover a poisoned feast, a stolen corpse, and a chilling plot to destroy the viscount's family. Every clue-strange knots, poisoned larks, and deadly berries-pulls them deeper into mysteries rife with peasant resentments and the furtive sin of lust.
Haunted by his father's violence and attacked by ruthless knights and servants, Bertwoin must learn that true strength lies not in vengeance, but in mercy. He must also unmask a murderer bent on settling unforgiven grudges, a murderer who wants the cruel satisfaction of literally serving revenge as a meal to the despised nobles.

About the Author
E. A. Rivière lives in a magical forest where mice claiming to be cousins move in for the winter and then take the towels when they leave in spring. He is an award-winning author, a graduate of the six-week Odyssey Fantasy Writing Workshop, and a grand prize winner of the Sidney Lanier Poetry Competition. Besides publishing over thirty stories and poems, he has also published two paranormal fantasies and three medieval mysteries set in France: The Plowman's Plight, The Wrathful Cup of Scorn, and The Virgin Provoked. Unlike many writers, he doesn't keep a cat in deference to his mouse cousins and because he could never live up to its expectations.
