Item description from seller

110 p. Arnulf Rainers legendary Face Farces series (19691975) marks a radical turning point in post-war art, pioneering the transition from painting to body art. Inspired by the character heads of F. X. Messerschmidt and interacting with Viennese Actionism, Rainer used photo-booth portraits as a canvas for ecstatic, grimacing self-representations, which he then aggressively overdrawn and painted. Published in 1971 by Galerie Ariadne and entirely designed by Rainer himself, this artist's book documents a seminal phase of his "graphic mimicry" and remains a highly sought-after, essential document of European conceptual and photographic art. Includes two orig. photographs and a dedication, signed by Arnulf Rainer. Jacket shows mild wear. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 606.
