About this Item
Profusely illustrated (including mounted portrait and 4 hors-texte, mounted color plates). 385 pp. Dark-green cloth with red and gold titling. Tan dustjacket with printing in brown and blindstamp. Shchusev's career began in the czarist period and followed a relatively unbroken arc through the Bolshevik and Stalinist periods, ending with his death from natural causes in 1949. He achieved great fame in 1924 as the leader of a group of architects who designed Lenin's mausoleum in three days. In addition to his contemporary work, he had a great love of old Russian art and architecture and worked on the preservation and restoration of many old buildings and monuments. In 1946 he founded a museum of archtecturein Moscow which bears his name. Apart from a jammed upper corner at pp. 363-76, the book is in fine condition. The dustjacket is somewhat worn and browned and has a few marks on the front panel. Seller Inventory # 65221
