This is a contributed book written by experts in the field of ADHD, each writing in his/her own area of expertise. The chapters are written in a clear style easily understood by professionals, teachers, and parents. There are several case studies in most chapters, making the topics more concrete and realistic. Specific teaching techniques are recommended so that the reader may more easily adapt theory into practice and experience success more quickly. Resources in Appendix A give detailed information on books, organizations, videos, and teaching materials available on the subject of ADHD. Barbara Priddy Guyer, E.d. D., has extensive experience in the public schools, where she taught grades 2-6, remedial reading, and learning disabilities classes. She also taught remedial reading in a women's prison. She has been a consultant in special education as well as a principal in a city school system. Since 1975, she has been coordinator of the learning disabilities graduate program at Marshall University, Huntington, WV. In 1981 she began the H.E.L.P. Program (Higher Education for Learing Problems) as a support for undergraduate students with LD and ADHD. IN 1985 she began Medical H.E.L.P., a unique remedial program for medical students and physicians who have LD and/or ADHD. She is also the author of The Pretenders: Gifted People Who Have Difficulty Learning. She is the mother of two daughters who have Learning Disabilities and ADHD.
