This updated edition of ADHD Coaching: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals describes the foundational principles as well as step-by-step guidance for teaching adults, college students, and adolescents how to survive and thrive with ADHD.
Coaching specifically targets the core impairments of ADHD, such as planning, time management, goal setting, organization, and problem solving, as well as academic, vocational, emotional, and interpersonal life difficulties. Chapters offer concrete advice for gathering information, conducting the initial intake, establishing goals and objectives, and working through all stages of coaching, along with helpful forms and a wide range of additional resources. The authors also discuss the business side of coaching, and how to develop one’s practice.
Richly detailed case studies illustrate how to help clients who present with a variety of ADHD symptoms. Each case study highlights different aspects of the coaching process and includes a description and background history of the client, and selected session dialogue interwoven with discussion of the case material. The book is designed to help facilitate skill building and work with clients to improve outcomes.
About the Author
Frances Prevatt, PhD, was a member of the educational psychology faculty at Texas A&M University and then Florida State University (FSU), where she is currently a professor emeritus. At FSU, she was executive director at the Assessment, Learning Evaluation, and Counseling Center (ALEC) and developed their ADHD coaching program. She has published over 75 research articles and coauthored two other books. Dr. Prevatt served on the advisory board of the National Resource Center on ADHD and has been a member of the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD) and Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD).
Abigail Levrini, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, an ADHD specialist, and the owner and clinical director of Psych Ed Connections, a private practice based out of Jacksonville, FL. She earned her doctorate in counseling and school psychology at Florida State University in 2008, where she was part of a team that spearheaded a now nationally recognized ADHD coaching intervention. Dr. Levrini has published numerous scientific articles on ADHD and presents her coaching model in professional settings throughout the country. She is also the author of Succeeding with Adult ADHD: Daily Strategies to Help you Achieve Your Goals and Manage Your Life.
