ADVANCED NETWORK PROTOCOLS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING

The landscape of advanced high performance computing (HPC) networking has undergone a profound transformation over the past three decades. What began as a niche engineering discipline practiced within a few elite research laboratories and supercomputing centers has evolved into a foundational pillar of modern computational infrastructure powering climate models, drug discovery, large scale simulations, and AI workloads at global scale.Networks that once served a handful of tightly controlled scientific workloads now carry petabytes of traffic daily across heterogeneous clusters, cloud environments, and hybrid deployments. This textbook has followed that journey end to end: from the fundamental principles of packet switching and layered protocols, through specialized interconnects like InfiniBand and RDMA, into the design of large scale topologies, optimization strategies, resilience mechanisms, and security architectures that make these systems viable in production.
