This style originated in Germany in the early 1900's and soon spread to the US. The common characteristics of this style are bold eye-catching lettering with flat colors. Shapes and objects are simplified, and the composition focuses on a central object. The cover of this pamphlet incorporates this style with the female character placed dead center and the dark background using a similar color for her dress. Swift & Company was close to the pinnacle of its meat slaughtering and distribution business and found a way to use the surplus remnants of the process to make lard. Recipes include: Fried Oysters, French Fried Potatoes, Hominy Balls, Gingersnaps, Devil's Food Cake, Biscuits, Rolls, and many more.
