242 x 152 mm. (9 1/2 x 6"). xiii, [1], 114 pp. Publisher's green buckram, cover printed in dark green and gilt, flat spine similarly lettered. In original green slipcase (the case sunned and a little worn). Frontispiece photograph of the author. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the limitation page. Crane A37. Tiny spot and trivial scratch on rear board, otherwise quite a fine copy, the text pristine and the binding unworn. Published on the occasion of Frost's 80th birthday, the poems in this collection were personally selected by the poet, and the preface, titled "The Prerequisites," was also written by him. The work spans more than 40 years of Frost's poetry, and includes some of his most famous verse, including "The Road Not Taken," and "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." Day writes of Frost that his work is distinguished by a blend of tradition and innovation: "by setting the elemental human passions in an idiom essentially puritan American, Frost is at once native to New England and highly original." Our copy is from the collection of two more recent poets, Laure-Anne Bosselaar (b. 1943) and her husband Kurt Brown (1944-2013). Bosselaar is a Belgian-American poet, translator, and editor who has published numerous works of poetry in multiple languages, including five collections of her own works. She has been given various prizes and recognitions (Pushcart, Isabella Gardner, Breadloaf) and was named Poet Laureate of Santa Barbara in 2019. Sometimes publishing jointly with Bosselaar, Brown was also a prolific poet and editor of anthologies, as well as the founder and first director of the Aspen Writer's Conference, playing a pivotal role in shaping its early vision and establishing Aspen as a literary center.
