Davis kept as United States ambassador to Great Britain under Woodrow Wilson, from December 1918 to March 1921. The entries cover the immediate aftermath of the First World War, the London campaign for the League of Nations, and Anglo-American relations during the treaty debates. Davis also recorded developments in British domestic politics, including proposals and legislation on unemployment insurance, profit-sharing, a minimum wage, and the eight-hour day. Among them is a remark by Prime Minister David Lloyd George that his program was liberal enough to shock an American Democrat.
