8vo. 96p. Stapled booklet in cream colored wrappers printed in black. Just hints of wear to extremities, wrappers clean, corners square and flat, else near fine to fine with no internal markings--a very artful recreation right down to the faux spots of foxing! The American Journal of Insanity was the original name of the journal now published by the American Psychiatric Association. The American Journal of Insanity began in 1844 and continued until 1921, when it was renamed the American Journal of Psychiatry, which continues to publish today. Per the slip tipped on to the rear cover, "This re-creation of Vol. 1, No. 1 of the American Journal of Insanity is presented with the compliments of Roche Laboratories, Nutley, New Jersey." The original was published by Bennett, Backus, & Hawley at Utica, N.Y. in 1844 and the re-creation ca. 1969. An important piece of American psychiatry.
