AMERICAN A

American A presents a curated selection of 80 photographs from a lot of 3000 negatives. These photographs were acquired at an auction and originally belonged to various local and regional newspapers in the United States between 1950 and 1969. They were intended to illustrate local news, but now serve as documentation of diverse topics such as feminist, beatnik, countercultural, and pacifist movements, among others. The stories and authors remain anonymous, but their work serves as the starting point for over 200 artists, writers, and contributors to create the content for the following three books (American B, C, & D). A source of inspiration and a record of a unique era.
