22x12.8 cm (oblong octavo), one leaf of letterpress, 12 embossed chromotype engravings, original pictorial embossed card wrappers, string tied. An elaborate brochure advertising "embossing dies that will work." At the time this advertising piece was produced, the Photo-Chromotype Engraving Company had been in business for more than twenty years. The company's specialty was "high grade embossing dies" which "are today recognized by embossing printers as the best to be had -- absolute register, made sharp and deep to bring out the details, but so they will not cut the stock." The firm could handle "everything relating to engraving -- designing and illustrating, zincs, halftones, duotones, color process plates and all kinds of embossing and stamping dies." The brochure prints examples of embossed images for menu cards, folders, booklet covers, Christmas cards and tags, business cards, programs, dance programs, etc. A similar advertising brochure from this company is present in the Hansen Collection at the Clark Art Institute (see the Hansen Catalogue 1900:13).
