With explanatory Plates, and a Portrait of the Author." 72pp with lithographed portrait frontispiece, four explanatory folding plates A, B, C & D, and table of contents. Frontispiece and blank verso very faintly & sparsely spotted and faintly dust-marked, verso also lightly handling-marked towards fore-edge. Title-page lightly dust- & handling-marked towards fore-edge. Folding plates faintly toned and/or faintly dust- and/or handling-marked, mainly in margins. Plate A a little more deeply toned along minor misfold very close to correct fold. Upper outer corners of outermost segments of Plates A, B & C with single short creases of lengths up 25mm confined to margins; light impressions of these creases at one upper corner of next-to-outermost segments of Plates B & C. One leaf of text - pages 47/48 - with hole of diameter up to 4mm in upper margins, affecting page number on both sides; another leaf - pages 67/68 - with two creases of lengths 45mm & 85mm across upper outer corner, the shorter confined to margins, the longer passing with minimal effect through 3 (of 4) lines of text on page 67. Contents otherwise here-and-there lightly toned, occasionally lightly handling-marked in fore-edge margins or lightly dust-marked along narrow strips adjacent to fore-edges, with a few isolated spots, and a few creased, dust-marked & furled corner tips. Top edge of text-block dust-soiled, other edges age-toned and a little dust- & handling-marked. Original pink paper-covered backstrip and boards, front board with illustrated paper title-label; original endpapers. Backstrip rubbed & toned, with loss at head, foot and adjacent to hinges, and with short zigzag-shaped closed tear close to foot extending from front to rear hinge. Front hinge broken, front board detached. Rear hinge almost completely split, though rear board quite firmly held. Front board rubbed, grazed, faded, with ingrained dust & other markings, and with two little spots of paper loss adjacent to fore-edge; label with spot of surface loss along upper edge, otherwise only lightly rubbed, but with ingrained dust-marking as over surroundings. Rear board lightly rubbed, patchily faded, a little bending-creased along 50mm of fore-edge, and with ingrained dust-marking to lesser degree than at front. Board edges rubbed, outer corners a little worn & curled. Front endpapers a little dust- & handling-marked towards fore-edges; trimmed bookplate of John L. Nevinson on pastedown, his pencilled signature dated 1947 on flyleaf. Oval blindstamp of earlier owner Nathaniel Buckley at both outer corners of flyleaf, and at blank lower outer corner of frontispiece; 3-digit number in fading ink within that at upper outer corner of flyleaf. Rear endpapers slightly dust-marked towards fore-edges; pastedown with narrow pasted-down cutting from sale catalogue relating to the item, on which inscription "Sotheby's - 22 July 1947 - £2.10.0". Binding wanting in appearance, with front board detached. Contents complete, and generally clean and tight. FAIR+ copy. (John L.
