In 1981, when computer-controlled cars were still in their infancy, the author recognized the growing need for driveability technicians. At that point, he began devoting a great deal of time studying the theory and operation of engine management systems. Within a few years, he was hired as a contract trainer for a major equipment supplier. He would later develop and teach his own driveability courses part-time, as well as write and produce video programs on the subject. While many shop owners enrolled their technicians in the authors training classes, they also hired Pete on a regular basis to fix their 'problem' cars.
In 1993, the author left his job at a GM dealership and accepted a position at Chilton publishing as an automotive editor. After a year at that position, he was promoted to technical editor of Motor Age Magazine, one of the most widely read trade publications in the automotive industry. During his two years with the magazine, Pete won two editorial awards. One of these honored his creation of 'Motor Age Garage,' a technical feature that became an integral part of the magazine's monthly format. After leaving the magazine in late 1996, Pete pursued his writing career developing training products for a nationally known information provider. While there, he authored a video program on the 1998 Volkswagen Passat, which was honored with a prestigious Telly award.
Today, Pete continues to write and produce automotive training materials on a full-time basis. Knowing how important it is to stay current, he spends countless hours in the shop and maintains all of his ASE credentials through recertification, including L1 (Advanced Level Engine Performance Specialist). The author also serves on the advisory committees of two award winning automotive training schools.
