AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY GRAND MAP OF ASIA . . * The map is exceptionally clean, bright and without a single tear in the folds. This map was folded in half, then again into quarters, then folded 8 times horizontally to neatly fit into the folder, truly a "pocket map." . * The map shows the broad general view of all Asia, beginning at the extreme West, with the British Isles, South down to the Gulf of Aden, East to Territory of Papua, North to the Aleutian islands. Therefore this map shows all of Europe from Paris, Italy, Eastern Europe, Norway, Russia, Spitsbergen, Franz Josef Land, Siberia across to the Bering Strait, Kamchatka, all of Japan, the Kurile Islands, Yezo [Hokkaido], Manchuria, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Sarawak, Singapore, Tenasserim [Malaysia] Burma, French-Indo China [Vietnam, Laos Cambodia], Bhutan, Himalaya Mountains, Tibet, East Turkestan, Mongolia, Gobi Desert, Afghanistan, Baluchistan, India, Ceylon, Maldives' Islands, Arabia, Persia [Iran] and the Gulf States, Central Asia and so on. . * China, Siberia, Mongolia and India occupy the central area. This map was done just after Japan occupied the Caroline Islands, formerly a German or Spanish possession, which was the decision of the League of Nations in 1920. These are outlined in red. From that time forward, until the end of World War II, these islands belonged to Japan. Japan also held control over Korea, the lower half of Karafuto Island, Taiwan [Formosa]. . * There is a key at the lower left, showing statute miles, kilometers, railroads and projected railroads. . * On the verso is an extensive index of countries, islands, lakes, mountains, rivers, towns, which occupies about 3/4 of the verso. . *** CONDITION: The map, cover has been mended inside, upper right & lower right corners, some old pen name on back cover and the number '350' written on the front cover, else solid, mended, sold "as is." . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *.
