AUGUST 1939: THE LAST DAYS OF PEACE

(Subject: World War II - General) The descent into war in 1939. Fleming looks at the orchestrated aggression of the Axis Powers after the previous year's Austrian and Sudeten-German putsches. He then considers Czechoslovakia's dismemberment, the Danzig crisis and the final straw, the grotesque and brutal assault on Poland which finally roused the British Government from its policy of apeasement and plunged the World into six years of war.
