A little girl goes to the beach with her father, where her imagination enables her to build the biggest sand castle in the world.
Reviews:
PreSchool-Grade 2-- A young girl and her father spend a rather quiet day at the beach in a story which flips back and forth from reality to make-believe. Abigail builds a sand castle with towers and a moat, but she sees it as the biggest castle in the world with a moat big enough to fit a ferryboat and keep out Martians. When threatened by boys, bikes, joggers, and a dog, Abigail is quick to defend the castle with threats of her father's prowess as a member of the Mob, Secret Service, and Marines. Both the text and the illustrations blend the reality of a day at the beach with the fantasies of a young child. Simple, colorful illustrations offer readers the same mixture of reality and fantasy. --Nancy A. Gifford, Schenectady County Public Library, NY
