All Aboard Math Reader Station Stop 3: Breakfast at Danny'sdiner: Abook about Multiplication: A Book about Multiplication

When Danny's niece and nephew, twins Tina and Tony, help out at the diner, they need to put their multiplication skills to work to make the breakfast rush run smoothly. Simultaneous.

Grade 1-3--This breezy story about twins Tony and Tina and their experiences helping out at their Uncle Danny's diner serves as a forum for children to practice their multiplication skills along with their reading efforts. The simple text and watercolor cartoons capture the excitement and pressure of actually surviving the morning rush at a restaurant. Word problems, such as how many eggs are needed to complete three orders of Danny's breakfast special with each serving needing three eggs, offer a practical application for math skills. Real-life uses for math calculations and a fun story add up to a tasty treat.--Sandra Kitain, Abrams Hebrew Academy, Yardley, PA

K-Gr. 2. Twins Tina and Tony enjoy helping out at their uncle's diner when he is short-staffed. From setting tables (10 tables with 2 place mats each; 8 booths with 4 mats each) to preparing 6 orders (each order needs 3 eggs, 4 sausages, and 2 slices of toast), and doubling the ingredients for the pancake recipe, the twins use multiplication to get the work done. Part of the All Aboard Math Reader series, this makes math a natural part of the story. Demarest's clear, active, line-and-watercolor pictures extend the fun, and kids will enjoy the view from the kitchen of a place and food they know well. Hazel Rochman
