Accessibility And The Bus System

Accessibility and the Bus System, Second edition explores the role of the bus system in enabling cities to function sustainably and efficiently by providing the necessary resources to support growing populations.

The book takes a comprehensive view of what buses can and cannot do, and how to maximise the bus system’s positive contribution while minimising the negative impacts. With cities absorbing around 70% of the world population by 2050, public transport will play a pivotal role in ensuring society’s access to work, education, healthcare, social activities and leisure.

Accessibility and the Bus System, Second edition:

• discusses the importance and influence accessibility has on quality of life
• explores different bus systems around the world, including in the UK, USA, Peru and Colombia
• develops a strategy for using the bus system as an integral part of improving peoples’ lives.

This interdisciplinary approach is aimed at city transport planners, bus system designers and implementers, transport engineers and civil engineers.
