Add to basketix, 187pp, 8p catalogue. fold. plate- this is from the Universal Magazine tipped in, it shows a parade of prisoners at an 'Auto de Fe' (act of faith) in SpainCharles Gabriel Dellon (1649-1709) was a French Catholic physician and traveller in the East Indies. After a dispute with the Governor of Daman in 1673, Dellon was arrested and sent to Portuguese Goa to face the Inquisition. In 1677, after two years of torture and five years of galley service, Dellon successfully appealed his case before the Grand Tribunal in Lisbon and was released. with an appendix containing an account of the escape of Archibald Bower (one of the Inquisitors) from the Inquisition at Macareta, Italy. Boards detached, part spine missing, part disbound but complete. 500g.
