While this is only Volume II of II, it is an Important Volume of detailed accounts and statistics on the History of Irish Fishery, "Money and Circulating Medium (Gold and Silver) which goes back as far as the Trade with Cows (Mac Murrough, Prince of Leinster) etc. Includes a List of Protestants and Catholics, Anno 1766 / Religious Sects and Parties in County Kerry / Customs, Manners and Habits in Connaught / Customs, Manners and Habits in Tipperary etc. There is includes also a section on: "Customs, Manners and Habits in Cork", including the mentioning of Bantry and Lord Bantry, Cloghnakilty (Clonakilty) and sentences like this one: "When at Glengarriff, in October 1808, I was informed by Miss Townshend, an intelligent elderly Lady, who resides at Castle Townshend, that women are hired to attend funerals and that their business is to rehearse a kind of oration on the Character and Ancestry of the deceased. This practice is called "keening" and these female orators are paid according to the rank and opulence of the person whom they panegyrize". The Volume also deals in "The Past State of Money", citing for example a letter by Dr.Boulter to Sir Robert Walpole dated May 25th, 1736: It is certain that Silver is so scarce with us.A moidure, which is worth about 27s. in England, passes here for30s.
