Hardcover, quarto size volume bound in genuine top-grain red cowhide with raised spine stamped in gold and cover stampings and design by Daniel B. Bianchi and Selma Ordewer in 22kt gold. 104 pages. All edges gilt. Additional refinements include bound in silk ribbon marker and specially commissioned marbled end-papers by Richard J. Wolfe. Illustrated with several full page plates. Also containing a foreword and biography by Frank McDowell. Special limited facsimile edition published for The Classics of Medicine Library, 1981, of the work originally published in 1816. A quality limited edition facsimile of this early treatise on the first rhinoplastic surgery performed in England. Joseph Constantine Carpue was an English surgeon who was born in London and associated with St George's Hospital and Duke of York Hospital in Chelsea. An early account of the beginnings of plastic surgery in the West. No other previous ownership marks. A clean, fresh unmarked and unread like new copy. As new.
