Acrostics, particularly double acrostics, were a popular type of puzzle in newspapers and periodicals up to about 1930, when they were superseded by crosswords. In earlier times they were sometimes used as a form of encryption. Several have been detected in the Hebrew of the Old Testament. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
