The author, a special education teacher and autism consultant, provides lessons that use scripts and interviews to teach social skills ranging from conversation skills to recovery from a social mistake to adolescent students with autism spectrum or related disorders (and who have mid-range skills in social understanding and use of expressive language). The 16 thematic units include warm-up activities, explanations using example characters, quizzes, skits, guided group discussion questions, illustration through thematic interviews of people outside the classroom environment or field trips to practice in the community, and a cumulative review bingo game. About the Author: Jeannie Stefonek, M. Ed., is the autism consultant for the Redwood Falls (MN) school district, and works there as a high school special education teacher.
