About this title
The scenario is familiar: a man and a woman - two intelligent, kind, well-meaning people, start a relationship . . . and within a period of time . . . hate each other.
Or another scenario: you wake up one day and see the person you married, and ask yourself, "Who is this stranger?"
Why?
Roy Masters, in his classic masterpiece of psychological insight The Adam & Eve Sindrome, explains with stunning clarity the underlying dynamics of the male/female relationship.
Modern-day America is filled with divorce, antagonism, tension, and even violence between the sexes. Why? How do so many marriages begin in love and end in divorce - and how can we prevent it?
The answer, Masters explains, lies in ancient wisdom: the age-old story of Adam and Eve. The story of Adam and Eve is not merely a historical fable, but is a living archetype, a pervasive pattern of male-female relationships which is continually re-enacted by individuals everywhere. The story of Adam and Eve story contains the underlying reasons why well-meaning men and women hope to find heaven - but too often, find hell.
But there is a solution: beyond both patriarchy and matriarchy, relationships can be rooted in sanity, clarity, and real love, when they are based on ancient and hidden principles of self-knowledge.
This provocative, revolutionary and eye-opening work is a unique and brilliant psychological analysis which far surpasses the ineffectual feel-good relationship therapies so prevalent today, and lays bare the real mechanics of the male-female dynamics.
Find out what is really going on between men and women; discover the secrets of a successful marriage, the true reasons for divorce, the dynamics of real love, and much more in the provocative and life-changing book.
Roy Masters was born in London, England, on April 2, 1928. By the age of four, young Roy was already aware of the plight of human existence. "I clearly remember the expressions of unhappiness on people’s faces and thinking to myself, "There must be more to life than this."
Masters’ father died of a heart attack when Roy was 15 and in 1948, Roy left England for South Africa, where he worked in the diamond cutting trade. Roy then traveled on to America and at age 24, married his wife, Ann. He eventually settled down in Houston, Texas, where he established the Institute of Hypnosis. In 1961, Roy had become aware, as a result of his work with hypnosis, that the reason he was so successful with his patients was that he was actually de-hypnotizing them. He soon realized that the hypnotic effect of life’s pressures and stresses was the problem and that hypnosis was not the answer.
In 1960, Roy formed the Foundation of Human Understanding and began doing a 15-minute taped radio program on KTYM in Los Angeles, CA. Upon the urging of a friend, he soon started one the first live call-in talk shows in America.
40 years later Roy is still going strong with his nationally syndicated radio program "Advice Line" heard nightly on the Talk Radio Network. More than a "talk" host; Roy Masters is also a "listen" host. He has counseled callers since Dr. Laura was in knickers, with a unique ability to hear inner problems, heal fears and sexual stresses, and help people take charge of their own lives. From Miami to Los Angeles his show has touched and brought life-changing courage to millions, including such diverse famous fans as the late John Wayne and Internet journalist Matt Drudge.
Millions more have seen or heard Roy Masters on shows such as CNN’s "Crossfire," "Sally Jesse Raphael," Fox News Channel’s "Drudge Report," "Sean Hannity’s WABC Show", and CNN’s "Larry King Live."
Roy now resides with his wife Ann, in Grants Pass, Oregon where he continues to run the Foundation of Human Understanding. Roy’s favorite pastime is spending time with his five children and 14 grandchildren.
