About the Author
Kenneth Durant (1889 1972) began spending summers in the Adirondacks as a child. A journalist, he opened and managed the American bureau of the Soviet news agency TASS for two decades and, after retirement, pursued his interest in the background of the guide-boat. His third wife, Helen van Dongen Durant (1909 2006), an internationally recognized documentary cinematographer, completed the book after Durant's death.
