The Adirondack Guideboat Format: Paperback

This is a book about “a beautiful and gallant craft”—the personification, in a wooden boat, of the finest qualities of the Adirondack culture of the 19th century. Beautifully illustrated, The Traditional Adirondack Guideboat is the definitive guide to these beautiful boats and their makers, both early and contemporary.

Stephen B. Sulavik, MD, was the world’s leading expert in pulmonary sarcoidosis, credited with discovering the most useful diagnostic test, the panda-lambda test. He taught for many years at the Yale University School of Medicine and at the University of Connecticut. An avid flyfisherman, his love for medicine was surpassed only by his love for the Adirondack mountains. He developed a passion for the indigenous, small-craft wooden boat, the Adirondack guideboat, and after 30 years studying its origins and makers, established himself as a leading authority on the subject.
