This volume brings together a series of articles by D. S. Maccoll on the administration of the Chantrey Bequest, a fund established in the nineteenth century to support British artists. In addition to Maccoll's articles, the book includes the text of Chantrey's will, as well as a list of purchases made with the Bequest. With its insights into the intersection of art, patronage, and politics, this book will be of interest to scholars and enthusiasts of British art history.
